Inspired by the hit production, Champion by Ishy Din, Live Theatre is launching a new level of supporter, CHAMPION.

Champions will be instrumental in securing the future of new writing that is made in the North East and revered across the country, enabling generations of children and young people to develop life-long imaginative skills as well as giving local playwrights and actors the chance to make their mark in the creative industries.  Artists might begin at Live Theatre and soon find themselves wowing people in the West End or accepting BAFTAs on television. Investing today in the artists of tomorrow is the only way to ensure that our future industries across stage and screen are buoyant and filled with regional talent.

As a distinctly creative region, the North East is bursting with stories, voices, ideas and talent. The stage at Live Theatre gives them a unique and visible platform to share these with the wider world and the artists are transformed by it. The audiences describe it as a theatre like no other. Yet within a landscape of rising costs and standstill funding, we need support more than ever to keep being the creative talent generator that our industry needs.

For £500 per year, a Champion will be a major player in Live Theatre’s continued survival and make a tangible difference to the creative lives of our many artists and young people. Live Theatre realises and appreciates the generosity of such an investment at this challenging but crucial time.

Muhammad Ali came to South Shields of his own accord and changed lives, instilling in everyone he met a sense of possibility, a sense of being seen. He was called 'The People’s Champion'. Live Theatre now invites you to be our Champion, to ensure that future generations of North East artists have their voices heard and their stories told. 

Champions will receive all the benefits of Friends, Good Friends and Best Friends, but will have exclusive 'behind the scenes' experiences with Artistic Director Jack McNamara  and the new writers we are nurturing.
