Tyne Bridge Closure Fri 23 Oct to Mon 2 Nov

From 2027, work will begin to restore the Tyne Bridge’s iconic arch. In preparation, engineers will install a protective scaffolding deck to enable this vital work to be carried out safely.

To facilitate this, the Tyne Bridge will be fully closed for 10 days, from 11pm on Friday 23rd October until 5am on Monday 2nd November 2026.

The closure will allow engineers to work safely and without interruption, completing up to 70% of the protective deck installation. This approach will help minimise the overall period of travel disruption. The remaining installation work will be carried out during weekday overnight closures throughout November.

During the full closure, all vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will need to use alternative routes. Residents, businesses and all those travelling in the area are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys and, where possible, use public transport.
