Playwrights Flashmob

Playwrights Flashmob

Friday 24 October 2025, 1–4pm

We are hosting a Playwrights Flashmob in partnership with new writing theatres across the nation.

Hosted by Live Theatre’s Creative Team and a guest writer, this is a warm, low pressure space to make progress on your writing and meet your tribe.

Last July, more than forty theatres across the UK flung their doors open on the same day for writers to co-work and talk. The spark came from Support Playwrights, a collective of theatre makers determined to champion writers in challenging times, born of a questionnaire answered by the writing community on their concerns and needs in today’s landscape. You can see their answers HERE.

We’re keeping the momentum going!

Why come?

  • Finish that draft you’re planning to submit to the North East Playwriting Award 2025 (deadline 31 October 2025) https://www.live.org.uk/td/neplaywritingaward
  • Polish a punchy 10 minutes of script for Live Writes, our quarterly scratch night that’s open for submissions now https://www.live.org.uk/live-writes
  • Get started on that brand new play you’ve been meaning to write.
  • Chat with Live Theatre’s creative team and fellow writers in a friendly and relaxed environment.
  • Find your people. Boot isolation out the door. Chat about what we’re making and dream up better ways forward.
  • Simply hunker down and write, knowing others are writing too.

Who it’s for

This event is open to all playwrights, new, emerging, aspiring, returning, seasoned, frazzled, whatever you call yourself, if you’re writing for the stage (or want to be), you are welcome!

The event is completely free and refreshments will be provided. No need to prebook, just come along on the day.

“In a noisy, divided world, new writing is more vital than ever. It flourishes when artists are heard, held, and free, to breathe, to risk, to belong. Events like the Playwrights Flashmob spark ecosystems of collaborators, mentors, audiences, and future leaders as one community. Sharing, holding space, and lifting one another higher as both a thank you and a launchpad. When we care for artists, their stories care for us.”

John Dawson - Live Theatre Artists Development Producer.
