Live Youth Theatre

Young people aged 10 - 25 (school year 6 upwards) - meet new friends, develop self-confidence and create original plays that reflect their views and opinions in weekly sessions delivered by some of the most exciting theatre makers in the region.

Live Youth Theatre meet weekly throughout the school year, starting in late September. Split into two exciting parts, young people will develop their skills in stage craft, develop a new play to perform on the stage and explore scripts that have been produced and performed here at Live Theatre.  Live Youth Theatre is the largest FREE theatre and drama programme for young people in the North East of England running groups at Live Theatre in Newcastle and at Monkwearmouth Academy, Sunderland.
 

The groups are split up in to the following days & ages:

Tuesday, 6-8pm - Ages 10-13 (School Years 6 - 8) LIMITED PLACES AVAILABLE

Tuesday, 6-8pm - Ages 14-16 (School Years 9 - 11) FULL

Wednesday, 5-7pm - Ages 10-14 (Sunderland, Monkwearmouth Academy) LIMITED PLACES AVAILABLE

Wednesday, 6-8pm - Ages 10-13 (School Years 6 - 8) LIMITED PLACES AVAILABLE

Wednesday, 6-8pm - Ages 17-25 (Sixth form College & above) FULL

Thursday, 6-8pm - Ages 10-13 (School Years 6 - 8) LIMITED PLACES AVAILABLE

Thursday, 6-8pm  - Ages 14-16 (School Years 9 - 11) FULL

Part 1: Autumn Term -  (x10 Sessions)

Week Beginning 23 September 2024  - Week Beginning 2 December 2024

Half Term - Week Beginning 28 October 2024

This first part of the term will include getting to know your groups, exploring ideas for the pieces that you will present at the end of term, and of course having lots of fun playing games & taking part in drama based exercises that will help to prepare everybody for the devising process as each group starts to create their pieces.
 

Part 2: Spring Term - (x10 Sessions)

Week Beginning 13 January 2024 - Week Beginning 25 March 2024

Half Term - Week Beginning 24 February 2024

This next part of the term will involve shaping everyone's pieces in to the final product that will be performed in March. Regular attendance during this time is especially important as this will also be everybody's rehearsal time prior to the showbacks. If you know that you will not be as available during this part of the term please chat to a member of the team so that we are aware of this in advance. (Of course there will still be lots of fun & games as well!)

Youth Theatre Go Live! - Saturday 29 March 2024 (1pm - 8pm)
A day in which each of the groups will 'Go Live' & show back the pieces that they have been working on to each other on our Main Stage. There will be lots of fun & games throughout & the day will be topped off with a party in celebration of everyone's hard work! All members MUST be available to attend this date. Please talk to us if you anticipate any problems.
