Live Theatre Community Garden

We have been successful in securing some funding to create a community garden in our courtyard behind Live Theatre. The courtyard is surrounded by listed buildings, and is currently looking unloved, and in need of a good tidy. We plan to grow some fruit, flowers and vegetables in raised beds, and make the space much more attractive as a garden in which staff, our tenants, volunteers and members of our community can come and relax.

Our Live Community Garden project will provide fortnightly volunteering sessions focused on improving physical and mental health and wellbeing through gentle outdoor work, as well as work experience and support for people looking to get back into work.

Do you fancy joining us to learn and develop new skills while also improving your health and wellbeing? The friendly, informal setting of the community garden in our courtyard will provide a safe and supportive environment where people and plants can grow and flourish! There will be a wide range of activities including seed sowing, planting, weeding, watering and harvesting. There will always be plenty of time to enjoy the garden, have a cup of tea and make new friends. We want everyone to feel included and welcome, and we will ensure all our volunteers are able to learn and develop at the pace that suits them.

Gardening sessions will run on a Tuesday afternoon, every fortnight between 1pm and 3pm, and are open to everyone aged 18 or over, though volunteers are very welcome to bring their children or grandchildren.

The next sessions are:

Tue 30 April 1pm - 3pm
Tue 14 May 1pm – 3pm
Tue 28 May 1pm – 3pm
Tue 11 June 1pm – 3pm
Tue 25 June 1pm – 3pm

This project is supported by a grant from The Nature Hubs Fund managed by Hubbub.

Thanks also to Cowell’s Garden Centre for their generous support and advice.
