Cast announced for Wintry Tales

We are delighted to announce the cast of Wintry Tales a dazzling and delightful new show for children this Christmas, running from Sunday 4 to Friday 23 December 2022.  Alice Faith and Bridget Marumo play a pair of curious storytellers on a mission to discover their next tale.

A glorious wintry treat for all the family, Wintry Tales is a new show that combines the words of award-winning playwright Rory Mullarkey with the wild minds of children.

Alice Faith is an actress based in County Durham. Her recent theatre credits are Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (LessIsMore), Four Models In Bright Hats Talk About The Future (Live Theatre) and Alice in Wonderland (Northumberland Theatre Company). Alice enjoys performing work that amplifies local stories and her other theatre credits include November Club’s A ‘Lit and Phil’ Christmas Carol, Little Cog’s Man Kind and War Mother for the Brundibar Arts Festival. Alice, a member of Derby Theatre’s Regional Young Actor’s Ensemble and National Youth Theatre is really excited to perform at Live Theatre.

Bridget Marumo was born in Botswana and came to the UK when she was five years old. A performer since she was a tot, Bridget trained in several skills at Dance City, SA Performing Arts School and Circus Central as part of the troupe. Bridget made her Live Theatre debut in May 2022 in We Are The Best! Her other credits include: Godspell (SA Performing Arts School), Danny and Mick (CBBC), Joy in The Dumping Ground (CBBC), Bonnie in I Must Have Loved You (BBC Radio 4) In The Black Fantastic (South Bank Centre) and Casualty and A Kind of Spark (BBC).

This magical hour of storytelling follows Alice and Bridget’s characters as they encounter lonely polar bears, snowy supermarkets, revolutionary elves and snowballing robots. Written by Rory Mullarkey, from ideas by local school children Wintry Tales promises to be wildly funny and inventive and a heart-warming delight for children and families.

Becky Morris, director of Wintry Tales said: “Wintry Tales is a very unique production where the playwright Rory and the Children and Young Peoples team at Live have been working with St Mary’s RC Primary School in Sunderland, St Paul’s CE Primary School in Newcastle and Caedmon Primary School in Gateshead to generate ideas for our Christmas production and inspire Rory to write an original family Christmas show.  Incorporating as many ideas from the young people as possible, using the Live Tales model and ethos of ‘saying yes’ to all of the children’s ideas with the focus on being original and creative… so yes its absolutely bonkers!! But also very beautiful at the same time. I’ve been working on this project from the very start and it's been such a wonderful way of working knowing that this family production has been created with young people. Everyone watching including the adults will be in for an absolute treat!!”

Wintry Tales is kindly supported by The Gillian Dickinson Trust. Tickets are priced £10 with children and concessions £6 available from www.live.org.uk or from Box Office on (0191) 232 1232. Children under 2 who do not need their own seat go free with an adult.
