Do you have a story that needs to be heard?

Live Theatre are looking for new ten minute plays that reflect the contemporary lived experience in the North East and how the world ahead of us could be reimagined.

The successful plays will be commissioned produced and presented by Live Theatre as part of Your Voice Your Future: North East, Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th September 2022. At Live Theatre we are dedicated to discovering and celebrating writers and theatre artists in the North East. We are also keen to expand our existing network of North East writers and theatre artists, and here from new voices from within our region. To help us discover those new voices we will only be accepting submissions from writers or theatre artists who have had no previous work professionally performed at Live Theatre.

Who is this for?

  • Writers or theatre artist with no previous professional credit at Live Theatre

  • Plays that are bold, diverse and theatrical
  • Original in content
  • Plays no longer then ten minutes
  • Plays created by writers for actors or created by artists to be performed by themselves
  • We are particularly keen to hear from people who do not feel represented within North East Theatre

What is the process?

  • Submissions are now open by following the submissions link below
  • The deadline for submissions is Friday 1st July at 10am
  • Submissions will be read by Live Theatre’s creative team and seven plays will be selected
  • Successful applicants will receive a £1000 commission to develop their play. This play will then be produced by Live Theatre as part of Your Voice, Your Future, North East in September 2022
  • All unsuccessful applicants will receive feedback on their submission
