VAGABAND

Written by TOM PICKARD & BEN MURRAY
Performed by BEN MURRAY, TOM PICKARD, PHIL MURRAY, JED GRIMES, LIAM HIATT, LOUISE PEACOCK

Music, song and poetry in a rare and intimate evening about a legendary North East outcast.

In 1803, at the age of 70, after busking in pubs on the Quayside, Jamie Allen crossed the river, stole a horse and was sentenced to death. It was the last of many crimes.

The North East’s truly legendary poet Tom Pickard collaborates with acclaimed musician Ben Murray (War Horse)  on a poetic and musical evening celebrating the life of the musician-outlaw and border piper Jamie Allan, based on Pickard’s own The Ballad of Jamie Allan, finalist of the National Book Critics Circle Awards.  Featuring live original music infused with the spirit of the region, this unique collaboration of poetry and song is directed by Anthony Biggs from the Playground Theatre.
