The Fire Station, Sunderland

Live Theatre is a partner in the exciting The Fire Station redevelopment in Sunderland, that has been converted into a music and arts hub.  We will deliver part of The Fire Station’s stimulating educational programme, encouraging young and old to become involved in the arts and culture.

The 1907 central fire station opened as a centre for participatory activities in the performing arts with a focus on young people in November 2017, thanks to a £2.5m Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

It is part of plans to develop a music and cultural quarter in Sunderland city centre by The MAC Trust, who plan to open a purpose-built midscale auditorium at the side of The Fire Station in late 2019 and further cultural developments in the Quarter which also houses the large-scale Empire Theatre and a small-scale music and performing arts venue on the first floor of The Peacock public house.

The MAC Trust was formed in 2012 to help lead Sunderland’s regeneration using the city’s cultural offer as its main impetus.
