Do I need to have experience of writing for stage?
This event is part of our commitment to developing new voices for the stage. It is often the first stage of engagement we have with a writer. Therefore, we don’t require applicants to have had any previous experience of writing for the stage. The scripts are selected entirely on their own merit.
We would advise writers who are interested in submitting to come along to a Ten Mins To… to get a feel for the event.
Can I submit more than one script for each submission?
We only accept one script per writer for each event call out. We would advise you to be specific in the script you chose to submit, taking into account the limitations and possibilities of the project.
Can I get feedback if my script is unsuccessful?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to offer individual feedback if your script is not chosen for this event.
Can you give me more details about the theme and what you are looking for?
We like to keep the stimulus/ theme as open as possible. In the past, writers have written literal interpretations of the theme or have gone further afield in their interpretations.
We hope that writers use this theme as a starting point to get their creativity going. The open nature of the call means that the work we showcase on the night is varied and dynamic.
You do not need to directly quote the theme in your script.
Can I submit an extract from a longer piece?
We are looking for stand alone pieces that have a dramatic journey in their own right. Please consider this when submitting work that is extracted from longer work.
Do you accept submissions from international writers?
We are only able to accept submissions from writers who are currently based in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
I’m an actor/ director, how can I get involved?
Please send your CV and a short letter of interest about your relevant experience to email@example.com. We are happy to consider applicants who are at the beginning of their careers. Directors are responsible for sourcing their own actors although we are happy to support this process.
In general, we engage actors and directors who are based in the North East region for this project.
