Introducing our latest Guest Blogger Kate Barton

Theatre is dangerous. By this, I don’t mean that it has the potential for scenery disasters, forgotten lines, mismanaged firearms and even falling ceilings; although these have, and do, occasionally occur. Theatre is dangerous because it is live and alive. In an increasingly digital world where we only concern ourselves with our 2D phone screens, theatre presents a 3D world teaming with life. It challenges us, shatters us and rocks us to our core. I’m interested in it all - from the director’s first vision to the actors last bow, particularly the vital behind-the-scenes individuals who create and manage the danger.

When I'm not reviewing and writing theatre articles, I usually find myself between Huddersfield and Durham, currently the Theatre Manager of the Assembly Rooms Theatre and Head of Student Theatre for Durham University. As a proud Northern lass, I am inspired by stories that capture the audiences imagination, particularly verbatim or documentary work. I've loved blogging for Live and would encourage anyone to give it a go for a month!
