Venue & Spaces
At the heart of Live Theatre is the Atrium bar, a perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely drink before and after a performance. Order your interval drinks and ice creams at the bar before the show and remember you can take your drinks into the theatre. The bar opens two hours before a performance and closes at 11.30pm.
The entrance to Live Theatre is located on Broad Chare just off Newcastle’s Quayside. The ground floor is home to the Box Office, Main Theatre, Atrium Bar and Undercroft.
The Box Office is your first port of call to collect tickets, meet guests or find out information. The Main Theatre is a flexible space that can seat up to 160 people providing the ideal space for conferences, presentations, parties and product launches. On entering the theatre, via the door situated to the right box office, customers can gain access to seats booked in the cabaret section or the ground floor auditorium (rows A, B & C).
The Atrium Bar offers a light, contemporary environment for a drinks reception, or to relax with a beverage before or after a show. Leading from the Atrium Bar is the Undercroft, a unique space steeped in medieval history. Furnished with stylish decor its distinctive character makes this a show-stopping room for smaller presentations, corporate entertaining and drinks with friends.
With toilets located on the ground floor in the Atrium Bar and the Main Theatre these spaces make for a fully accessible destination. The accessible lift located on the ground floor can be used to access floors 1 to 3 while the stairs, situated in a glass tower, offer dramatic rooftop views of the iconic Tyne Bridge and the Quayside.
Providing access to the Main Theatre balcony seating area (rows E & F) and additional toilets the first floor also includes an open plan office space which is available for hire, or short term lease.
The rooms located on this floor are for Live Theatre staff only.
Rising into the rafters of a 19th Century warehouse the third floor is home to the Studio Theatre, a large Rehearsal Room and dedicated Writers’ Room. The Studio Theatre can seat up to 60 people and offers a flexible space that can be laid out to various specifications providing the perfect location for seminars, training sessions, talks or even formal dinners. The Rehearsal Room is a spacious area ideal for practical training sessions and workshops.
Providing a sanctuary for professional and budding writers is a Writers’ Room, otherwise known as the Gillian Dickinson Room, which is dedicated to the memory of acclaimed playwright and friend of Live Theatre, Julia Darling (The Taxi Driver’s Daughter, The Last Post, Attachment). This room also provides an ideal space for intimate meetings and breakout sessions.
Situated at the top of the building and accessible via a set of private stairs, is another dedicated Writers’ Room, the Benfield Room dedicated to the memory of acclaimed playwright, and friend of Live Theatre, Tom Hadaway (The Filleting Machine, The Long Line and Seafarers). Featuring the original Georgian hoist utilised when the building served as a bustling industrial warehouse, this room provides an unusual, intimate setting for meetings, breakout sessions and business lunches.
