Volunteer at Live Tales

Volunteers at Live Tales, Live Theatre’s creative writing centre, provide encouragement to children one to one and in small groups, whilst volunteer illustrators create drawings to accompany the children’s story.

What a buzz! Love the games and format. All child-centred and creative.  Brings writing to life.
This is such a joyous thing to do!”
Current Volunteers

During the workshops volunteers encourage small groups of students as they work on their writing. There is never any emphasis on spelling or grammar.

Live Tales is especially looking for volunteers who can draw to bring the young people’s ideas to life by creating illustrations to accompany their story.

Are you a doodler, a cartoonist or fine artist? Could you create a rainbow giraffe, with clouds for wings, and his best friend a blue spotted monkey? Or a pig and a horse adventuring through a land made of candyfloss? Can you draw under pressure and bring the creative ideas of young people to life?  Drawing volunteers at Live Tales, Live Theatre’s creative writing centre for young people create illustrations to accompany a story created by a class of children. Each week the characters and settings are different, and only limited by the group’s imagination!

Are you interested in becoming a drawing volunteer for Live Tales? Email livetales@live.org.uk and sign up for our Drawing Volunteer Taster Session on Monday 26 June, 2pm.

Live Tales offers fun and interactive story writing workshops for Key Stage 2 classes (ages 7-11) and is located just behind Live Theatre, just off Newcastle's quayside. Find out more about bringing a class to visit Live Tales.

Everyone (as long as they are over 18) and is a good listener is welcome to volunteer. Volunteering can be part of an organised workplace volunteering scheme, support your higher or further education course or placement, to enhance your CV, or simply because you have spare time. Current volunteers include students, retired people, teachers, journalists and artists.
