Live Lab

As well as providing audiences with the opportunity to see new work first and the chance to influence the creative process, Live Lab events in our Studio Theatre space are part of Live Theatre’s extensive talent development programme.

The programme offers facilities and practical support to emerging theatre practitioners through a variety of initiatives.

  • 10 Minutes To... is a brand new event in which five playwrights are matched with five directors and given the opportunity to write a 10 minute play that responds to a particular theme.
  • Live Theatre’s 2013 Edinburgh Fringe hit Captain Amazing by Alistair McDowall emerged through Live Theatre and The Empty Space’s Bursary scheme.
  • We also provide development time and space to a range of emerging artists and theatre makers including Northern Nomads and Tender Buttons who present their latest work in September.
  • Our Scratch Nights have provided a performance platform for over twenty different companies from the region and beyond

Check out current work in our Live Lab programme.
