Applications for our 2013 bursary are now closed.
Live Theatre, in collaboration with The Empty Space, is offering a bursary of £2500 to one north east based theatre maker/company to develop a new piece of work.
The bursary is designed to encourage innovative artists to explore different ways in which text and performance can be brought together. We are keen to see fresh approaches to creating and using new writing within theatre.
Initially three theatre makers/companies will be shortlisted, each of which will receive a small bursary of £500 to begin development of their show. Shortlisted artists will also be offered one week’s rehearsal space and will present a work in progress (between 10 and 30 minutes) at Live Theatre and The Empty Space’s Scratch Night on 12 December 2013.
Based on audience response to these performances, and a development meeting with Live Theatre and The Empty Space, one of the companies will be awarded a full bursary of £2500 plus rehearsal space, and producing and dramaturgical support to develop their show further for performance at Live Theatre in 2014.
It is envisaged that the successful candidates will not be part of the ACE NPO portfolio.
Previous bursary winners include:
- Alistair McDowall - Captain Amazing
- Bob Karper - Black River Falls
- Laura Lindow & Beccy Owen - Sawdust & Stardust
