Youth Theatre

Every year nearly 250 young people aged 11 to 25 years old meet at Live Theatre or one of its satellite venues to take part in a series of free drama sessions. The aim of the Youth Theatre is to tap into the creative potential of young people living across Tyneside and encourage them to use theatre and drama to develop key social and personal skills that will be of use throughout their lives.

LIVE'S YOUTH THEATRE

YOUTH THEATRE VIDEO

All members of Live’s Youth Theatre are given the chance to showcase their talents each year as part of an annual festival where they get the chance to perform on a professional stage for all of their friends and families to enjoy.

The year is broken down into three terms:

• October to December
• January to March
• April to June
• August (annual summer festival)

During each term weekly sessions are held at Live Theatre as well as satellite groups in the East end of Newcastle at Benfield School (Theatre East) and West end of Newcastle at Excelsior Academy (Theatre West).

Live’s Youth Theatre is split into four age groups:

• 11 to 12 year olds
• 13 to 14 year olds
• 15 to 16 year olds
• 17 to 25 year olds

Theatre East
• 11 to 13 year olds
• 14 to 17 year olds

Theatre West
• 11 to 13 year olds
• 14 to 17 year olds

Live Youth Theatre is a member of the National Association of Youth Theatres.

All drama workers who lead the sessions undergo a Criminal Record Bureau check.
