Live Theatre’s Education and Participation department work and develop creative relationships with young people and local communities in the North East.

Home to the largest free drama education and outreach programme in the region Live’s education team are committed to getting people involved in a range of creative opportunities via three strands:

Youth Theatre, Education and Community

 

Collaborations with other organisations are a very important means of enriching Live Theatre’s education and participation work.

Gateshead College

- Level 3 Stage & Media Production BTEC

The first of its kind in the region, this course has been designed by Live Theatre and Gateshead College to provide students with the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for. Students will work on productions with student and professional performers in music, dance and drama, enabling learners to develop skills across all aspects of theatre production.

This comprehensive course will cover:

  • Stage Management
  • Lighting
  • Sound
  • Props
  • Stage Design
  • Film & TV Craft

Students will become equipped with an ‘Industry Skills Passport’ - skills that are vital for a career in this industry and certification for skills that employers want, including: first aid, rigging, electrical safety, risk assessment and manual handling.

- Level 3 Extended Diploma In Performing Arts (Acting)  BTEC

Live Theatre are pleased to be delivering part of Gateshead College's Diploma In Performing Arts BTEC, working with students in their second year of study on the following topics:

  • Text - an exploration of contemporary play texts drawing on Live Theatre’s extensive catalogue of new plays
  • Improvisation - unlocking spontaneity and imagination through a series of improvisational games and exercises
  • Character - An exploration of the techniques and tools used by actors to develop their roles
